Overnight our world has changed and many of us are feeling the severe physical, economic, financial, emotional and even mental effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Normal, we suddenly realize, is a privilege.

While many of us are shut up in our homes and are working remotely, it’s difficult to wrap our minds around our human limitations. Our Achilles heel has been laid bare: discomfort with uncertainty.

Living in a constant state of unease isn’t ideal, but in some ways, this painful experience is causing us to pause, think and hopefully grow. On a personal level, some of us are being forced to take stock of what we haven’t, should’ve been doing all along, or maybe what we need to let go of. We are being forced to answer the question: What is really important?

But answering that question on a global scale is challenging because by default it means that as a planet we must grow up and be better than what we have been exposed to be. The inequality of our world systems is glaring. And the fact that it has taken us such great suffering for mother nature to feel some relief from our abuse… well.

The saying goes “Every cloud has a silver lining.” We need to focus on the small mercies and be grateful for what we do have and can do. Perhaps the global question can be answered by us taking control of what’s in our power to and caring for our neighbor in every and any way we can. We here at Amplify, certainly recognize that even if we can’t answer all the issues at hand, our community will only get stronger. There is an absence of physical connection, but we have the presence of intentional virtual communication.
